The Dreamer & The Dream
What I Become Next
The most aggressive track on the album - Fire reframed from destruction into intention. A volcanic anthem about choosing who you’re going to be before you’re ready, because ‘waiting to be whole is just another cage.’
Mood: aggressive, driving, volcanic, intentional, fierce

Lyrics
[Verse 1] I don’t wait for signs anymore I don’t ask the past I feel the weight inside my chest And let it point me fast I’ve stood in ash, I’ve held the dark I’ve buried what was mine Now I decide what stays with me And what I leave behind [Pre-Chorus] There is no path that clears itself No light without a spark You don’t escape the burning You decide where to start [Chorus] I am the fire that chooses shape Not wild, not unkind I burn toward what I’m willing to be And leave the rest behind I don’t need proof, I don’t need fate I don’t need to be sure I move because I’m still alive And that is reason enough [Verse 2] I won’t confuse my fear for truth Or call my doubt restraint I’ve learned that waiting to be whole Is just another cage I carry what I cannot lose I feed the flame with breath Becoming isn’t certainty It’s choosing anyway [Pre-Chorus 2] You ask me who I’ll be someday Like there’s a final form I am the heat inside the now That keeps me moving forward [Chorus] I am the fire that chooses shape Not wild, not unkind I burn toward what I’m willing to be And leave the rest behind I don’t need proof, I don’t need fate I don’t need to be sure I move because I’m still alive And that is reason enough [Bridge] If I wait until I’m fearless I’ll never leave the ground Fire isn’t born of certainty It’s born of turning around [Final Chorus] I am the flame that learns restraint The heat that does not flee I don’t become by accident I become because I choose to be I won’t ask the world for permission To make my meaning real I am the spark that stayed awake When everything went still [Outro] I choose And I move
Behind the Song
"What I Become Next" is the moment you stop healing and start moving.
There’s a trap that lives inside the recovery narrative. It goes like this: first you break, then you grieve, then you heal, and then you’re allowed to start living again. The problem is that "then" never arrives. There’s always another layer to process, another wound to excavate, another insight to integrate. And at some point, healing stops being a process and starts being a hiding place.
This song is Fire’s intervention. Fire doesn’t do patience. Fire doesn’t do "readiness." Fire says: "I don’t wait for signs anymore, I don’t ask the past." The past is a consultant, not a commander. You can listen to it, but you don’t need its permission to move.
The first verse is a declaration of agency: "I’ve stood in ash, I’ve held the dark, I’ve buried what was mine. Now I decide what stays with me and what I leave behind." This isn’t someone who’s pretending the pain didn’t happen. It’s someone who has fully experienced the pain - the ash, the dark, the burial - and is now choosing to move forward anyway. Not because they’re healed. Because they’re alive.
The pre-chorus confronts the myth of readiness: "There is no path that clears itself, no light without a spark. You don’t escape the burning - you decide where to start." Nobody gets a clean runway. The path doesn’t magically open up when you’ve done enough therapy. You create the path by walking. You create the spark by choosing. The fire isn’t something that happens to you. It’s something you become.
The chorus is raw kinetic energy: "I am the fire that chooses shape - not wild, not unkind." This is the critical distinction. This isn’t reckless combustion. This isn’t burning everything down because you’re angry. This is controlled heat. Intentional flame. "I burn toward what I’m willing to be and leave the rest behind." It’s not about knowing exactly what you’ll become. It’s about choosing a direction and burning toward it.
The second verse contains the line that justifies the entire track: "I’ve learned that waiting to be whole is just another cage." If you’re waiting until you’re completely healed before you start living, you’re not healing. You’re hiding. Wholeness isn’t a prerequisite for movement. Movement is how wholeness is built.
The bridge is four lines of volcanic clarity: "If I wait until I’m fearless, I’ll never leave the ground. Fire isn’t born of certainty. It’s born of turning around." Fear doesn’t disqualify you from action. If anything, it qualifies you. Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s the decision to start the fire anyway.
The final chorus transforms the metaphor from fire-as-destruction to fire-as-discipline: "I am the flame that learns restraint, the heat that does not flee." This isn’t wildfire. This is a forge. "I don’t become by accident - I become because I choose to be."
This is the most aggressive and driving track on the project. Charcoal-textured percussion, modern hybrid sound design, relentless forward momentum. It sounds like a dormant volcano waking up. Because that’s what it is.
