Behind the Song

They say every end is a new beginning, but usually, new beginnings are quiet and gentle. Mine? Not so much.

"New Beginnings" is the final track on Apocalypse Ballet, and it carries the full weight of that responsibility. This is for that moment when you finally decide to get your life together, right before you realize how much work that's actually going to take. It's optimistic, it's heavy, and it's undeniably shiny.

The track brings back the ethereal vocals from "Chasing the First Light" but plants them in firmer ground. The uncertainty of that earlier track has resolved into something more solid - not certainty, exactly, but commitment. The orchestral elements that spent the album being weaponized are finally allowed to be purely beautiful. The electronic production that spent eleven tracks destroying things now builds something.

As the album closer, it completes the arc: from destruction to chaos to release to renewal. The apocalypse isn't the end of the story. It's the clearing of the stage. And what comes next - the ballet after the apocalypse - starts here.

The most-played track on the album, and probably the shiniest thing I've ever produced.
